Hip Hop Weight Classes
Posted in editorial, Features, hiphop on May 10, 2009 by rashodhI was recently looking at Jermaine Dupri’s LIVING THE LIFE video on the HipHop Weight Classes and I found it very interesting. The only thing that I didn’t agree with was that he stated that Lil Wayne was the king of the mountain pretty much right now. But that is beside the point. He got into the basics of this list but not really being specific about these weight classes. Him and Johnta Austin gave the breakdown of what it takes to be in each weight class. These are the breakdowns:
SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT – Has to have at least 2 Classic Albums
HEAVYWEIGHT – Has to have at least 1 Classic Album
LIGHT WEIGHT – Has a couple of Hot Songs.
So these are the artists I believe fits these different classes if you feel different then definitely let me know. And keep in mind these are artists that are relevant today.
SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT
Jay-Z (of course) – Blueprint and Reasonable Doubt
Nas – Illmatic and Untitled
Ice Cube – Death Certificate and America’s Most Wanted
Notorious B.I.G. – Ready To Die and Life After Death
Eminem – The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show
Dr. Dre – The Chronic and 2001
Kanye West – College Graduation & Late Registration
I know there are some people that I have forgot so I apologize
HEAVYWEIGHT
50 Cent – Get Rich Or Die Tryin
Lil Wayne – Tha Carter 2 (some people will say Tha Carter 3, I feel that was overhyped)
T.I. – King or PaperTrail (both were hot albums from start to finish
Young Jeezy – Thug Motivation
Rick Ross – Deeper Than Rap
Jadakiss – Kiss Of Death
Nelly – Nellyville
The Clipse – Lord Willin
Ludacris – Release Therapy
Common – Be
(T-Pain eventhough his albums aren’t that good, he is still a heavyweight on a technicality)
Cam’ron – Purple Haze
LIGHT WEIGHT
Plies
Flo Rida
Maino
Fabolous
Jim Jones
Juelz Santana
I know I am forgetting a LOT of people right now. So if you have anybody that is relevant right now, definitely let me know. LEAVE A COMMENT
JoeBuddenTV – Vibe’s Rap Bracket?!
Posted in Features, hiphop, interview, videos with tags joe budden, joel ortiz, mc hammer, shod harris, slaughterhouse, Vibe magazine on May 10, 2009 by rashodhI feel him on a lot of stuff that he is saying up here. There are some artists rappers that just shouldnt even be on a list like this. And Vibe magazine always throws out list like this and I don’t feel there are serious about it because if they were why would you even throw a MC Hammer up there. Be real
